Michael Gruskoff (Young Frankenstein, Quest For Fire)


This week Brian talks to Producer Michael Gruskoff about starting his career in the William Morris mailroom with guys like Jerry Weintraub and Irwin Winkler, making Dennis Hopper’s deal as an agent for The Last Movie, then having to live with that deal as the Executive Producer of the film, having Mel Brooks slam the door in his face then approve him as Producer of Young Frankenstein and the huge effort it took to get Quest For Fire made. Jonathan Taplin (Mean Streets, The Last Waltz)


This week Brian talks to Producer Jonathan Taplin about coming into Albert Grossman’s employment as a sophmore at Princeton, taking acts like Joan Collins, The Band and Bob Dylan on the road and living in Woodstock with Dylan, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Later he would would come to Hollywood and almost immediately read a script called Season Of The Witch (later renamed Mean Streets) and produce and finance that movie, as well as The Last Waltz and others.
